Trends in footwear seem to be ever changing, but over time we see that the demand for shoes with comfort over style has been increasing steadily. With awareness on how the right footwear can add to a healthy lifestyle, people are waking up to the importance of comfortable shoes. Clogs shoes are known to lead this category as not only do they provide utmost comfort, they are also in sync with the latest fashion.
For those of us who haven’t heard of this shoe, a clog shoe is a close toed shoe with mostly a wooden sole and heels not higher than two inches. Most styles in these shoes are back-less, except the clog boots. They are also referred to as the French sabot, at times, that came into the picture as early as the 18th century, making them one of the oldest forms of footwear.
Clogs shoes were first seen during the industrial revolution on mill and mine workers.
It was cheap and comfortable, and yet long lasting due to their tough leather exterior. Clogs for women were created with a slight heel and also gave way to ‘clog dancing’ which became popular among peasants in those times.
Today, clog shoes are back with a bang with a little tweaking in their original design. The basic structure remains the same, but the bottom of the shoe is now shaped in an upward curve to form an arch, for added comfort. Also, besides leather, they are now also manufactured using canvas, rubber, cloth, suede and plastic. Due to their unique styling, clogs for women are often worn by hospital nurses and have come to be known about as the ‘nursing shoe’, which is typically white in color.
The popularity of the clog shoe has reached newer heights in recent times. Worn with or without socks, they go well with almost anything and are perfect for everyday wear. Even celebrities have been caught flaunting them time and again, and leading designer footwear brands are seen experimenting with this wonder shoe in fashion weeks the world over. Both men and women love the practicality and comfort this shoe offers.
